Chile: New packing for early cherries

The first Chilean cherries are already in the Chinese market, kicking off the season 11 days ahead of the previous season. Starting Monday the 23rd, cherry producers in the northern part of Chile will be able to process their fruit directly in the Coquimbo region, thanks to the new Teno Fruit packing. To learn more details, we spoke with Miguel Ángel Lorenzini, plant manager at Teno Fruit. Lorenzini commented that the project began in August of this year, “we had the availability to bring a machine and we combined very well with a plant here in the area, which is Seiko. The times were right and today we started packing the fruit.” The manager of Teno Fruit pointed out that before producers had to pack their fruit 500 kilometers from here, mainly in the Rancagua area. “So we proposed to go out with the fruit directly from its origin.
