The Chilean blueberry export season is set to end with over 86,000 tons, slightly less than last year but more than expected, due to anticipation of higher prices leading to export of lower quality fruit. The season started well due to a fruit shortage but ended less positively due to heat waves and increased competition. The US, Europe, and the Far East were the main markets. The season saw a 190% increase in air shipments, particularly to the US, due to supply shortages, while maritime shipments fell by 6%. Organic blueberry exports grew by 5.4%, with the majority sent to the US, followed by Europe and the UK.
