The Chilean poultry sector has successfully recovered from the Avian Influenza (AI) outbreak in 2023, showing a notable increase in production and exports in the first half of 2024. Chicken meat production rose by 4% to 344 thousand tons, nearing pre-crisis levels, while exports experienced a significant 29% increase in volume and 33% increase in value, reaching 85 thousand tons and 176 million dollars respectively. The United States, Mexico, and Puerto Rico were the primary markets for these exports. Additionally, turkey exports also saw growth, with a 16% increase in volume but a 37% decrease in value. The rapid recovery is attributed to the efforts of the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) and ChileCarne, highlighting the importance of public-private collaboration in overcoming challenges. Furthermore, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations reported a global increase in international chicken prices due to demand in the Near East and North Africa, offering a favorable backdrop for Chile as a competitive exporter.
