China has approved dozens of genetically modified corn and soybean seed varieties for planting, marking a breakthrough that could enhance production and decrease reliance on foreign supplies. The approved list includes varieties developed by China National Seed Group and Beijing Dabeinong Technology Group. While the area earmarked for GM crops in China is still small, these seeds have the potential to increase yields by as much as 12% and could be worth up to 60 billion yuan in the national market.
