China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has given the green light to genetically modified (GM) seed varieties owned by Dabeinong and China National Seed Group, a subsidiary of the Syngenta group. This follows China's announcement in January to expand GM soybeans and corn planting after successful pilot projects. The move is part of China's strategy to boost domestic production and cut grain imports by over 100 million tons annually. The public can comment on the approved varieties until April 17.
