Beyond these quotas, imports would be obliged to pay tariffs of 55% in addition to the current tariff rate. During the three-year period from 2026 to 2028, the total annual quotas for imported meat will be 2,688 million tons, 2,742 million tons, and 2,797 million tons, respectively. As for implementation, as of January 1, 2026, imported beef within the prescribed annual quota will continue to be subject to the current tariff rate and any unused quota will not be carried over to the following year. Once imports reach the annual quota, starting from the third day thereafter (inclusive), the volume exceeding the quota will be subject to the additional 55% tariff. Brazil is expected to receive the largest import quota for meat, with 1.1 million tons annually, while other countries such as Argentina would receive up to 510,000 t, Uruguay around 320,000 t, Australia (current free trade agreement is suspended) and New Zealand around 200,000 t each, and for the U.S. around 160,000 t. ...
