Eleven countries associated with the Belt and Road Initiative, led by China and Pakistan, have launched a global network to boost the potato industry. Initiated by Southwest University, the network aims to enhance the quality and efficiency of the potato sector in BRI nations through academic exchange, joint research, and technology transfer. The initiative will also establish an innovative institute for potato breeding and germplasm creation, and each nation will receive 100 sets of germplasm rapid diagnostic kits. A strategic cooperation agreement was signed and a proposal for the 'Belt and Road' International Potato Germplasm Resource Bank was proposed.
