In 2023, China's pork imports are projected to rise as Covid restrictions relax and demand increases, although not to the levels of 2021. The country's total pork imports, including offal, are anticipated to hover around 2 million tons per year, maintaining an 95% self-sufficiency and meeting food security objectives. Despite this, China will remain the world's largest pork importer. Pork imports in 2022 were significantly lower than in 2021, with volumes and values decreasing by 55.9% and 65.4% respectively. The main suppliers of pork to China were Spain, Brazil, Denmark, the Netherlands, and the United States.
