Agricultural representatives from Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean met to strategize the eradication of the cattle screwworm (GBG) and enhance agricultural health protection. The meeting outlined a five-pillar strategy focusing on livestock movement control, surveillance, wound treatment, training, and sterile fly dispersal, to be monitored by OIRSA and local health agencies. Countries also committed to improving animal traceability and technological solutions. Despite progress, there's a need to refine strategies and accelerate results. The U.S. government has pledged support, and efforts are underway to restart exports of Mexican cattle, aligning trading entities' sanitary measures with international standards.
