Spain: Citrus production is expected to reach 5.4 Mt in the 2024/25 campaign

The initial production of citrus fruits in Spain is 5.842 million tons for the 2024/2025 campaign, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. The calculation of the national production, which has been based on the data provided by the main autonomous communities with citrus production, represents 60,500 tons less - 1% below - than the provisional figures for the 2023/2024 season. They are also 8.6% lower than the average of the last five campaigns. The effects of the continued drought, excessive heat in key periods during the development of citrus fruits and, in some cases, alternate bearing have been decisive factors in the production volume. The productive behavior, however, is different depending on the type of citrus. The forecasts for oranges increase compared to the last campaign and, in contrast, they fall especially for lemons and also for small citrus fruits; while they remain at the same levels for grapefruit.
