Vietnam has seen a significant increase in shellfish exports in the first five months of 2024, with a 10.6% rise from the previous month, reaching a total of 17.7 million USD. The exports, which include clams, oysters, snails, and scallops, have surpassed the same period in 2023 by 51.7 million USD, with clams being the highest earning product. The EU is Vietnam's primary market for these exports, seeing a 5% increase in value over 2023, despite a 25% drop from 2022. Spain, Italy, and Portugal are the top importers. Over 20 businesses are involved in these exports, with HASUVIMEX, Lenger Seafoods Vietnam, and Minh Dang Co., Ltd being the largest contributors. The industry employs around 200,000 workers and operates on over 41,500 hectares, with an annual production of about 265,000 tons, predominantly clams.
