The climate has always had an impact on bees and plants, but in recent years the changes have become increasingly tangible and unpredictable. Unusually warm winters, followed by drought and hot summers, are testing both wild and honey bees – which in our region number between 600 and 800 species. Increasingly frequent extreme weather events, combined with diseases, pesticides, lack of food, and improper care, are leading to an alarmingly high mortality rate. Losses in some areas last winter were approximately 70%, reported by Yoanna Ivanova and Roman Rachkov from the Klimateka platform. By 2025, the sharp drought has become one of the main reasons for the reduction in food for bees. According to data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, last summer was one of the driest since the mid-20th century.
