Cocoa was the "star product" of fair trade product sales in Spain in 2024, as it accounted for 68.7% of the sector's income last year, which reached a total value of 158 million euros, 3% more than in 2023. This was noted by the State Coordinator of Fair Trade, an organization that, when taking stock of the sector in 2024, took the opportunity to call for "greater public support" for the model it defends, which "puts people, equity, and respect for the environment at the center." In a statement, they specified that food continues to be the "most sold typology" of fair trade products, as 96% of total sales—about 149 million euros—were of edible products last year, up from 95% in 2023.
