China's coconut imports experienced a 37.4% surge in 2021, reaching 872,000 tons and valued at $450 million, primarily due to the expansion of the beverage market. Thailand and Indonesia were the main suppliers, accounting for over 88% of imports. The demand is vastly exceeded by domestic production, with Hainan Island's output being less than 10% of the market's demand. The popularity of coconut products, especially in beverages, has led to increased sales in the fresh food market as well. Thai companies are encouraged to find entry points into the Chinese market and diversify products to cater to local preferences. Digital marketing strategies, including collaborations with influencers and promotions during Chinese festivals, are recommended to enhance the visibility of Thai coconut products.
