Construction of Gyeongnam coastal razor clam resources to be fully pushed forward.

Published Dec 5, 2025

Tridge summary

The Gyeongnam Fisheries Resources Research Institute's Shellfish Farming Research Center recently released 100,000 juvenile ark shells (young shellfish) for the creation of spawning grounds on Ikki Island and Wolmyeong Island in Punghwa-ri, Yangyang County, Tongyeong (photo). The ark shell is known to spawn twice a year, in spring and autumn, and Gyeongnam Province produces more than 60% of the total ark shells in the country. Due to recent overfishing, marine environmental issues, and unstable seed supply, production has been decreasing, prompting fishermen and production organizations to continuously request the development of mass production technology for artificial seeds and the expansion of resource release. The juvenile ark shells released in this trial will be secured in October 2024 and May 2025.
