Due to its lower price, consuming meat in Argentina is cheaper compared to Uruguay, Chile and Brazil, reveals a study by the Mediterranean Foundation. On average, the value per kilo ranges from US$8.24 to US$9.54. As the report explains, the differences in dollar values are due more than anything to the fact that the comparison cuts are not the same in each country. Although the comparison is still in favor of Argentina, the report warns that the gap with neighboring countries is closing. In the comparison with Uruguay and Argentina, 15 cuts of beef were included at the final consumer level that were the same for both countries. “In February 2022, the average price of this basket of cuts was US$8.75 per kilo in Uruguay and US$8.24 in Argentina, that is, on average, Argentine meat was 6% more cheap,” says the report.
