Consumption of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) has grown by more than 60% in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year, a figure that contrasts with the sharp drop in oil prices, both at origin and destination, recorded between September 2024 and June 2025, followed by a subsequent recovery. “The recovery in consumption shows that the Spanish consumer is loyal to olive oil, although with a price limit of around six euros per kilo at destination,” said expert Manuel Parras during the presentation of the 2025 olive sector conjuncture report by the Caja Rural de Jaén Chair of Economics, Commercialization and Olive Cooperatives at the University of Jaén.
