Cooperative Bangun Tani Makmur: A New Hope from Cirumput Village for Horticultural Farmers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANTEN -- The village of Cirumput in Pandeglang, Banten, may not yet be well-known to the public. However, from this small village, great hopes are growing—not just for the local farmers, but also as an inspiration for national agricultural development based on cooperatives. Recently, a group of horticulture farmers in the village established a cooperative named Koperasi Bangun Tani Makmur, with the support of Agriterra, an international organization focused on strengthening farmer cooperatives in developing countries, including Indonesia. Currently, the cooperative has gathered 23 members, all of whom are horticulture farmers. Although still in its early stages, its potential is immense—estimated to reach over 500 horticulture farmers in the region. Interestingly, this farmer cooperative is built on a unique collaborative model with direct impacts felt by the farmers.
