In Mato Grosso, the cost of corn production has seen a slight decrease of 2% in the last month, now at R$ 3,368.89 per hectare, as reported by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (IMEA). This reduction is mainly due to lower expenses on agricultural inputs. However, the Effective Operating Cost (COE) has also decreased by 1.74%, standing at R$4,736.82 per hectare. To cover these costs for the 2024/25 harvest, producers need to increase their yield to 135.40 bags per hectare, a 9.61% rise from the previous cycle, against the backdrop of an average corn price of R$34.98 per bag. This highlights the critical need for improved efficiency and productivity in corn farming to ensure economic sustainability, especially as the average yield over the past three years was 103.86 bags per hectare, with no yield estimate yet for the 2024/25 harvest.
