Coupang has expanded its direct delivery of seafood from the Honam region's islands to secure new sales channels for fishermen. Coupang announced on August 24 that it has started direct transactions with seafood companies in local governments designated as areas with declining populations, such as Wando County, Sinan County, and Yeongwang County in Jeollanam-do. The population of these regions, which once approached 150,000, has now decreased to between 40,000 and 50,000. Coupang had been operating direct delivery from Wando County (for abalone) and Namhae County (for octopus, horned turban shells, and stone flowers) and has expanded direct transactions to island regions starting this year. The expansion of direct delivery from production sites has been supported by the Gwangju Advanced Logistics Center and the Daejeon Fresh Center, which opened last year.
