The recent orange alert issued by Senamhi due to the intense rainfall in the north and center of the country has raised alarms in the agricultural sector. In this context, CultiVida warned that the current climatic conditions may favor the proliferation of pests and diseases in crops, directly affecting the productivity and economy of thousands of farmers. The executive director of CultiVida, Rubén Carrasco, explained that climate change is altering temperature and humidity patterns, creating an environment conducive to the emergence of pests and pathogens that are just waiting for the right conditions to spread or propagate. “This climate change makes the proliferation of pests and diseases that can seriously harm crops quite likely.
