Russia's agricultural sector had a record-breaking year in 2020, with grain and leguminous crops harvest reaching over 10 million tons more than the previous year, totaling between 125 to 131 million tons. This success is attributed to high yields and an increase in the area for winter sowing. However, the quality of the grain is a concern, with most being lower quality due to export goals. The price environment is promising for wheat farmers, but rye farmers are facing challenges as Russia has had to import rye and more land is being dedicated to rye cultivation. The average wholesale price for food rye has increased to 10.2 thousand rubles per ton from 8.3 thousand rubles per ton last year, with the potential for exports estimated at around 300-400 thousand tons in 2020.
