Brazil's Embrapa Dairy Cattle has exported the genomic evaluation of dairy Gir herds to Mexico, marking a significant step in the internationalization of Brazilian bovine genetics. The technology, which was also sent to Bolivia, is expected to be expanded to 11 other Latin American countries by 2025. The service is part of the National Dairy Gir Improvement Program, a partnership between Embrapa and the Brazilian Association of Dairy Gir Breeders, and aims to accelerate the genetic progress of herds and reduce costs. The technology identifies characteristics such as weight gain, production, and disease resistance, making it a valuable tool for tropical regions.
