Brazilian dairy imports rose by 14.5% in May compared to April, totaling 8.4 thousand tons due to low domestic raw material availability and the off-season period of dairy production. The devaluation of the dollar against the real in May also contributed to increased foreign purchases. Powdered milk imports surged by 26% to 4.18 thousand tons, primarily from Uruguay and Argentina, while cheese imports increased by 3.2% to 1.9 thousand tons, mainly from Argentina. However, exports fell by 22% in May, with a trade balance deficit of US$ 21.7 million, nearly doubling from April.
