The Department of Agriculture in Davao City, Philippines, has announced that at least 62 local certified durian orchards will be exporting the Puyat variety of durians to China this year. This follows a Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) approval for the Puyat variety by the Chinese market in October 2022. The Davao region, known for being the largest durian producing area in Mindanao, planted 1,387,628 durian trees in 2021 across 16,573 hectares, and produced 73,867 tons of durians in 2021. Currently, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea are the top five countries for Philippine durian exports.
