When the hottest weather arrives, those long days when there is more time to be in the garden and watering becomes almost a daily habit, many people enjoy going out every day to water. However, in the middle of summer, this frequent and superficial watering is usually a mistake. Understanding the difference between deep watering and superficial watering allows one to change a habit and achieve stronger, less dependent plants that respond better to the heat. Superficial watering is the most common, but also the most deceptive: it applies little water quickly, wetting only the top layer of the soil. The soil appears moist, but the water does not reach the roots.
