Korean seaweed exports, also known as 'black semiconductor', have seen a significant increase, with the export value surpassing 1 trillion won in 2021, and the number of exporting countries nearly doubling from 64 in 2010 to 124 in 2021. However, this surge in demand is causing a rise in domestic prices, which could impact dining costs. Furthermore, seaweed production is declining due to increasing water temperatures and a higher incidence of pests and diseases, which is also contributing to the price hike.
