Demand for blueberries in the UK has surged by 27% in the past year, leading to a significant gap between supply and consumer demand. The supermarket chain Tesco has noted the growing popularity of blueberries, especially among children, due to their health benefits. Currently, the UK's annual production stands at 6,000 tonnes, meaning the country relies heavily on imports, primarily from Peru. However, UK farmers are planning to increase production by 30% in the coming years by introducing new varieties better suited to the UK climate. Tesco is collaborating with Corridor Hunter, a British grower responsible for nearly half of the UK's blueberry production, to reduce reliance on imports.
