Demand for corn in Colombia will increase due to livestock growth

Economic recovery and growing livestock and poultry populations are driving demand for Colombian corn. Colombian corn consumption in 2025/2026 is projected to increase to 8.45 million tonnes due to growing demand from the animal feed sector. Domestic poultry and pork production growth in 2024 was stronger than expected, leading to increased demand for feed corn. Chicken and egg production increased by 2.8% year-on-year in 2024, while pork production increased by 7.8% over the same period. Colombia’s poultry sector remains the largest consumer of animal feed, accounting for 65% of total corn imports, while the pork sector accounts for 17% of total corn imports. Approximately 95% of imported corn is used for animal feed, with the remaining 5% for human consumption.
