Despite commercial tensions, Mexico continues to increase pork meat purchases from the U.S.

According to USMEF, U.S. pork meat imports by Mexico grew by 11% in the first quarter of 2025 despite growing competition and uncertainty surrounding trade policies.

Gerardo Rodríguez, USMEF director in Mexico, attributed the growth to multiple factors such as the continuity of the growth trend initiated 15 years ago, increased consumer confidence and product visibility, and also more sales for the foodservice and restaurant channel.

The U.S. supplies 85% of the pork meat that Mexico imports, and Rodríguez highlights that they are working with importers to create products tailored to their needs, especially in convenience stores and the foodservice channel.

He also points out that competition increases daily, so preserving the U.S. tariff exemption is vital to avoid damaging the trade relationship, since "nobody wins and everything loses value".
