In the first five months of 2020, despite the pandemic, Peru's agricultural sector experienced a 2.0% growth, with both agricultural and livestock subsectors showing positive trends. The agricultural subsector saw a 2.4% increase, led by higher production of various crops such as paprika, paddy rice, blueberry, and starchy corn, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri). The livestock sector also contributed, with a 1.3% increase, driven by higher production of chicken, raw cow's milk, chicken eggs, and pigs. May alone brought a 1.6% growth for the agricultural sector, with the agricultural subsector growing by 2.7%, largely due to increased production of pecan, paddy rice, hard yellow corn, and other crops. This growth in the agricultural sector is attributed to increased plantings and delayed harvests.
