(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeon Jae-hoon = The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 21st that the H5 type avian influenza (AI) antigen was detected at a small-scale miscellaneous poultry farm (goose farm) located in Gwangju Metropolitan City.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs detected the AI antigen during a regular surveillance inspection at the farm while special quarantine measures were in place.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has deployed an initial response team to the farm and is controlling access, carrying out culling and epidemiological investigations, and taking other quarantine measures in accordance with the "Avian Influenza Quarantine Enforcement Decree" and the "Avian Influenza Emergency Action Guidelines" because there is a high possibility that the H5 type AI antigen detection will be judged as highly pathogenic.
In addition, the ministry plans to issue a temporary suspension of movement order for poultry farms and related livestock facilities and livestock vehicles nationwide from 11:00 PM on the same day until 11:00 PM on the 22nd.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs urged livestock farmers to report to quarantine authorities if they notice any symptoms suspected of highly pathogenic AI, such as an increase in mortality or a decrease in egg production rate, in the poultry they are raising.
