There is discontent in the rice sector due to the cancellation of an export business of husked rice to Panama with the ship in the port of Montevideo and a signed contract. Panama is a traditional market for our country's husked rice, which in previous harvests usually averages around 100,000 tons. This year, it is only 20,000. The Panamanian market has a 90% tariff, but in times of shortage, this percentage drops to 3%. This is why the official visit in April, led by President Yamandú Orsi, accompanied by Chancellor Mario Lubetkin, and attended by Guillermo O'Brien for the Rice Growers Association and Diego Nicola for the Rice Mills Guild, gained greater relevance. In this context, a private company from our country closed the contract for two ships. The first was in May and arrived in June in Panamanian lands.
