The Arctic Global Seed Vault, also known as the Doomsday Vault, has been replenished with 30,000 new seed samples, marking the largest addition since 2020. The vault, located on the Norwegian island of Svalbard, serves as a backup for the world's gene banks and is capable of withstanding global catastrophes. The recent addition was made by 21 countries, including first-time contributors Bolivia and Chad, and the samples are vital for food security due to climate change and conflict. The vault is only opened twice or thrice a year to limit exposure to the outside world.
