The article highlights the severe challenges faced by sheep and goat farms in various regions of Catalonia due to the ongoing drought. The drought has significantly impacted pastures and forced farmers to spend more on buying dry hardware, cereals, and other foods to maintain their livestock, threatening the economic sustainability of the farms. The situation is further worsened by the lack of water in wells, increased costs of public water, and health difficulties due to high temperatures and mosquitoes leading to bluetongue. The Young Farmers and Cattle Farmers of Catalonia (JARC) have called on the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food (DARPA) to develop an urgent aid plan to support the most affected sheep and goat farms.
