Dry weather favors rice planting

According to the Economic Bulletin released by Emater/RS-Ascar this Thursday (23), rice planting has advanced significantly in Rio Grande do Sul, reaching 35% of the projected area. The dry weather recorded in most of the producing regions has favored soil preparation, the construction of levees, and the establishment of crops. Emater highlighted that the reduction in rainfall volumes has allowed access to areas that previously had excess moisture. Despite this, the progress of planting remains heterogeneous between regions. "In the floodplain areas, with slower drainage, planting is still in the initial phase due to excess moisture for machinery use," the bulletin reported. In localities with firm weather, the advance reaches two-thirds of the projected area. The technicians observed that the pre-germinated system predominates in the wetter areas, while cultivation in dry soil occurs in plots with good trafficability.
