Ukraine will increase its import of rye and rye flour by five times in the 2025/2026 season to 15-16 thousand tons from 3 thousand tons a year earlier, reported the director of the association "Mills of Ukraine" Rodion Rybchinsky, writes Interfax-Ukraine.
"There will be mass imports. … How much will we import over the winter of 2025-2026? I think the total import of both flour and grain, rye, will amount to 15-16 thousand tons. Last marketing year it was within 3 thousand tons," he said at a forum within the Agro2Food exhibition in Kyiv on Wednesday.
The head of the industry association explained the shortage of rye that arose in Ukraine by the unwillingness of farmers to sow this crop.
"I do not see agricultural producers actively sowing winter rye (for the 2026 harvest – IF-U). That is, there is an increase, literally 5% from what it was last year. But it will not solve the problem of the deficit. Ukraine will not be able to compensate for the deficit thanks to the autumn sowing," he summarized.
