In the monthly traffic light report published by Coninagro, the potato sector comfortably holds its place in the red light, which includes all those productions that, due to price problems, lack of competitiveness, or trade restrictions, are currently in crisis.
In the case of potatoes, there is a bit of each of these factors, and that is why the images coming from the sector show no improvements, but quite the opposite. Now, many producers prefer to abandon the harvest altogether rather than pick it and lose money.
"This is a pretty screwed up year, we are losing money and we aren't saving even 20% of the investment," warn the potato producers, facing a crisis caused by low industrial demand and overproduction.
