Bulgarian cherry farmers are experiencing difficulties due to constant rains, which have led to a poor quality harvest and unstable market prices. The price of cherries is fluctuating, with the current range being BGN 2.50-3 per kilogram, down from an initial price of about BGN 10 per kilogram. The extent of the damage to the crop varies by variety, with the 'Early Lori' cherry variety being significantly affected. Miroslav Chernikov, a farmer from North-Eastern Bulgaria, has so far been able to avoid major damage to his crops, as his area has not experienced rain. However, the situation is worsened by similar weather conditions in neighboring Greece, which has resulted in a shortage of cherries and potential price increases.
