The Thai agricultural department has announced that the durian harvesting season in east Thailand for 2025 will start from late March to early April, with the first batch already harvested in Trat Province. The estimated durian production in the region has seen a significant increase of 56.89% from the previous year, reaching 1,045,410 tons. However, the export market is struggling due to China's strict import controls and high prices, leading to a drop in domestic prices. In response, the Thai government is working with industry partners to meet China's safety standards and negotiate a reduction in sampling rates. A decision on the new policy is expected to be implemented before the peak durian listing in April 2025.
