The 2021 Agricultural Census by Statistics Netherlands reveals a slight increase in the Netherlands' arable crop area, with a notable growth in seed onion cultivation but a decline in barley and potato cultivation. The total ware potato cultivation area has fallen by nearly 5 thousand ha, while seed and starch potato areas have seen slight increases. Over a quarter of the total potato area is now used for starch potatoes. Since 2000, the seed potato area has expanded by 2.3 thousand ha, whereas the ware and starch potato areas have shrunk by 15.7 thousand ha and 5.5 thousand ha respectively.
