World: Dutch milk supply falls by 1.6% in October due to bluetongue and derogation

Dutch milk supply shrank by 1.6 percent in October. The rate of decline continued to slow. Since September, the impact of the bluetongue virus on the development of milk supply has been weakening and other factors such as derogation seem to have a greater influence. The cumulative level up to and including October 2024 was 2.0 percent lower than in the same period of 2023. EU milk supply increased slightly in September (+0.1 percent). There had been a slight decline in the two previous months. A decline was still visible in Western Europe (Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands). France and Poland continued to grow. In Ireland, volume increased, ending a long period of decline. On balance, EU milk supply was 0.6 percent higher in the first three quarters of 2024 than last year.
