The Netherlands saw a significant shift in its soybean imports in the first half of 2020, with a 40% increase to 1.6 billion kilograms from Brazil, while imports from the United States decreased by 19% compared to the same period in 2019. The total soybean imports, including from both countries, increased by 14% in volume and 17% in value to 2.4 billion kilos and 811 million euros, respectively. Around 25% of these imports are re-exported, with the rest being processed into soybean meal and oil for both local and international markets. The country also imported soybean meal for re-export, with a total import value of 1.3 billion euros, primarily from Brazil and to a lesser extent from the United States. The main destinations for these soy exports, which include Dutch products and re-exports, are Germany, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, with a total export value of 1 billion euros.
