German authorities have issued a warning after finding E. coli in lamb and flour samples during monitoring in 2020. Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) was detected in 50 of 380 fresh lamb samples, more so in German lamb compared to other countries. STEC was also found in 22 of 242 wheat flour samples. Consumers are advised to follow kitchen hygiene practices and ensure proper cooking of these foods to prevent food poisoning. The monitoring also revealed the presence of Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria monocytogenes, and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in various meat samples, and ESBL/AmpC-producing E. coli in some fresh chicken, ground pork, and fresh lamb.
