In Hungary, 55-60 large producers deal with integrated rabbit meat production. About 103-105 thousand females produce 3.8-4 million slaughter rabbits per year. Thanks to regular consumption promotion campaigns since 2017, 10-15 percent of domestic production, 700-750 tons of rabbit meat, is sold on the domestic market. Although the rabbit is not cheap, there is a group of customers who are specifically looking for this high-quality product. - Our current situation is similar to that of the poultry and pig sectors. We are struggling with increased feed and energy costs and high prices for vaccines, vitamins and other inputs - said Róbert Juráskó, the president of the interprofessional organization.
