Peruvian turkey meat exports, a key ingredient in the holiday dinner, totaled $2,196,000 between January and October of this year, with Ecuador being its main destination, reported the Agroexport Management of the Association of Exporters (ADEX). Young turkey meat (commercially known as baby turkey) was exported for $2,126,000, accounting for 90% of the total. This product is the most in demand for being softer and less fibrous, and is the preferred choice for oven cooking. Meanwhile, whole turkey was sent abroad for $69,441. These products were dispatched from Lima and transported mainly by air, with shipments valued at $2,126,000, and to a lesser extent by sea, for $69,441. It should be noted that, in previous years, international buyers mainly demanded turkey breast and leg ham.
