In May 2022, Ukraine experienced a significant surge in the import of fruits and vegetables due to the conflict with Russia, which led to the occupation of key production areas and trade infrastructure. The country set record highs in the imports of various vegetables and fruits, including cabbage, carrots, beets, radishes, cucumbers, zucchini, and bulb onions, with the majority of these imports coming from countries like Poland, the Netherlands, Romania, and Turkey. The greenhouse vegetable sector also faced challenges, with increased imports of cucumbers and zucchini necessary to offset the shortages caused by the conflict. Despite these challenges, apple exports continued to grow, showing resilience in the face of logistical difficulties.
