In 2022, Egypt emerged as the primary supplier of oranges to Uzbekistan, marking a significant shift from previous years when Turkey held the top spot. The volume of orange imports to Uzbekistan surged by 50% compared to 2021, largely due to the country's economic growth and the liberalization of imports. As a result, Turkey's share in Uzbekistan's orange imports dropped from 43% in 2021 to 17% in 2022, with Iran overtaking Turkey as the second-largest supplier. The geographical reach of Uzbekistan's orange imports expanded, with nine countries contributing to the imports, including South Africa, which saw a 2.5-fold increase in orange exports to Uzbekistan. The entry of Zimbabwe as a supplier also highlights the growing production of fresh oranges in Africa and the search for new markets for their surplus.
