Egypt ranks as the third largest exporter of agricultural products, including Egyptian onions, with a total export of about 280,498 tons since January. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reports that Egypt is one of the top ten onion-producing countries globally. The country's onion crop is cultivated across various Arab countries and has been a significant export for Egypt since the 1960s, following cotton and rice in monetary return. The main importers of fresh Egyptian onions include Russia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the Netherlands, Syria, Jordan, the UK, Libya, Lebanon, Iraq, the Emirates, Italy, and Spain, with exports to over 30 European countries and most Arab nations.
