Egypt's medicinal and aromatic plant exports reached $330 million in 2023, with a goal of increasing to $400 million in 2024, according to Reda Khalil Abdel Jalil, Director of Technical Affairs at the Food Industries Chamber of the Federation of Industries. Egypt is a major exporter of basil, perfume, and other plants, and aims to increase its market share to 10% of the global trade. However, the sector faces challenges such as lack of improvement in plant varieties, lack of awareness in modern agricultural practices, and weaknesses in national sterilization methods.
